Snooker League Week 11
Deadlines Approach
Entries for the Snooker League Individual Championships in the first
week of August close this week so if you havent got your name
down to compete in this event please see your captain who will have
the entry form and details for this event.
The closing date for entries into the 60th South Australian State
Snooker Titles also closes this Friday. This event begins on the 28th
and 29th of July with the round robin stages. This should prove to be
an exciting event and it would be good to see a large number of
snooker league players participating in this event. Also keep the
12th of August free as this is when the final for the State
Championships will be held and it would also be good to see a good
crowd watching this event.
This week marks the halfway mark of the season for 2001 and it looks
like being an exciting second half of the year for the SA snooker
league. In the A Grade week 10 saw wins to Ultimate Gold who defeated
UQ2 16-0 leaving them firmly entrenched at the top of the A Grade
table with 18 points, 3 points clear of Royal Park Rebels on 15
points. Royal Park Rebels 13-3 win over Leg Breakers this week gave
evidence to the small gap between second and forth on the table, as
Leg Breakers fell out of second spot to fourth as a result of this
loss while the Rebels move up from third to second. BASA defeated
Henley and Grange RSL in a close fought match 10-6 securing BASA
third spot for at least one week as they are equal on points with Leg
Breakers and only one point behind the Rebels.
The bottom half of the table sees Henley and Grange RSL and Royal
park on 4 wins both needing strong second halves of the year in order
to challenge for a finals position. While UQ2 and Mansfield Park will
be looking for a stronger second half of the year in what has so far
proved a tough opening 10 weeks to the season.
In the B Grade Breakers Black is still out in front with 19 points
for the year. They are then followed by UQ2, Sharkeys Black and
Ultimate Black who are fighting for the final 2 spots in the top 3.
This week saw Breakers defeating the Masters Apprentices 11-5, UQ2
Blue defeating Sigmatas 13-3 and
Sharkeys forfeiting to Ultimate Black. These results leave only three
points seperating UQ2 Blue in second place on the table and Ultimate
Black on fourth place. We then see Sigmatas and Masters Apprentices
in fifth and sixth on the table with one win a piece.
